hi, i’m erin.
When it comes to these things, I never really know quite how to sum myself up into a simple one-liner. It’s easy to jump to a career-focused title—something like Social Media and Digital Content Strategist—but I’m more than just what I do professionally. I’m also a proud Midwestern girl, an eldest daughter, a content creator (and curator!), a cafe lover, a reader, a traveler and experience-seeker, and so much more.
I was born and raised in a small city in southwestern Ohio and had what I believe to be an idealistic American childhood. I grew up in a kind of perfect neighborhood, almost all my friends’ houses were in walking distance, my schools—elementary, middle, and high—were in walking distance, too. Everything I needed at the time was within a few miles’ radius, except for good shopping, and when my friends and I became driving age, the world opened up to greater Dayton and Columbus... major upgrades for a small-city girl!
I grew up with a lot of space to be creative. I played the piano, painted, crafted, sang (a lot) of karaoke, wrote short stories, and when I got my first camera, fell in love with taking pictures and videos. I was obsessed with being online, too. I loved to consume and create equally. YouTube, Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram—I was on all the platforms through my pivotal teen years. In true child-of-the-internet fashion, I found community in fandoms and followed trends outside of what was popular in my hometown. The self-proclaimed resident Tumblr-girl of my high school, if you will.
In early high school, I started to fantasize about going to college in California. The ocean, palm trees, sunshine, diverse groups of people, and open-minded culture all appealed to me. Truthfully, I was so, so happy in my hometown. I love Ohio (seriously, ask any one of my friends and they’ll tell you how much I talk about it), but I had this itch to go further and leave the bubble I was so comfortable in. It took a little back-and-forth, a couple years at University of San Francisco, a transfer to The Ohio State University, a pandemic-era post-grad stay with my family in Connecticut, and a half-year stint with a remote job living in a retirement neighborhood with my grandpa, but then, finally (!) a move to LA.
What started as the pursuit of a #girlboss job quickly became reality. I had landed myself in back-to-back dream roles, had quite a few “flew too close to the sun” moments, and ultimately found myself seeing a future with possibilities beyond what I imagined. Today, I’m freelancing in what I love professionally: social media strategy, social-forward content creation, graphic design, storytelling, and community-building; and personally, I’m rediscovering all the love I had for arts and crafts, writing, photography, video-making, and online communities that I had growing up (don’t worry, the love for karaoke is still strong... but a future in music doesn’t seem within reach).
I’m a firm believer in having a north star—something far off in the distance to be pursuing—but I’m working on reminding myself to enjoy where I am right now. Inevitably, I’ll find myself nostalgic for this exact moment one day in the future anyways. I’m a real dedicated yearner, so I need the long journey to feel the full impact of the reward. This is that journey!
